Photovoltaics

Photo-voltaic modules (often called solar panels) are devices that are used to generate renewable energy directly from sunlight.

Solar cells are used to convert sunlight into electricity and a module is a collection of solar cells spread over a large area which work together to provide enough power to be useful. The more sunlight hits a solar cell the more electricity it produces meaning that Portugal is an ideal location for using photovltaic panels to produce your renewable energy.

Often the electricity collected by photo-voltaic modules is stored in batteries so that it can be used by you whenever you need it rather than as it is produced, this is ideal for remote areas where mains electricity supply is unavailable.

If you do have mains electricity supply available to you then there is a new option which could allow you to sell the energy that you produce with your photo-voltaic system directly to Portugal's national electricity grid. See our "Microproduçã/Miniprodução" page for more information. (...more)
